Millsaps women’s soccer defeats MUW 1-0 in Columbus

Millsaps women’s soccer defeated MUW 1-0 Wednesday night at Roger Short Soccer Complex in Columbus, Mississippi.

Freshman Madison Perez scored the only goal midway through the 21st minute, her first collegiate goal. Eden Birch assisted on the play. Perez finished with three shots on goal, while Birch had two shots, including one on goal. Senior Alex Bremond led Millsaps with five shots and four shots on goal.

Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Borden made nine saves in her first collegiate start. She stopped MUW’s three consecutive shots early in the match and saved four shots during the Owls’ effort to equalize late in the first half.

Both teams recorded nine shots in the second half. MUW’s goalkeeper made eight saves, including four between the 75th and 80th minutes, while Millsaps held on through late shots in the 83rd, 85th and 90th minutes. The final attempt came with 32 seconds remaining and went over the net.

Millsaps will return home to host LaGrange College at noon Sunday in its next contest.
