Millsaps women’s soccer falls to LaGrange 4-3 after late goal

The Millsaps College women’s soccer team lost to LaGrange College 4-3 at Harper Davis Field after the Panthers scored a late second-half goal. Millsaps put seven of its eight shots on goal, while LaGrange held a 20-8 advantage in shots and scored three times after halftime.

LaGrange took a 1-0 lead on a penalty kick in the third minute, but Millsaps responded when Alex Bremond scored to tie the match, with Madison Perez providing the assist. Millsaps then moved ahead 2-1 when Birden scored on Perez’s second assist of the match.

Victoria Viquez added a goal before halftime, giving the Majors a 3-1 lead. Eden Birch also scored for Millsaps and put all three of her shots on goal, while Bremond finished with a goal, an assist and three shots.

LaGrange cut the deficit to 3-2 and later tied the match at 3-3. The Panthers then continued to pressure the Millsaps defense and scored the deciding goal late in the match.

Freshman goalkeeper Kayla Borden played all 90 minutes and made seven saves, including four in the second half. LaGrange placed 12 shots on frame.

Millsaps is scheduled to host Centenary College on Senior Night, Friday, Sept. 25, beginning at 5 p.m.
