Southern Miss volleyball sweeps Louisiana Tech behind McAda’s 22 kills

Southern Miss completed a weekend sweep of Louisiana Tech with a 3-1 victory Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center in Ruston, winning 25-16, 23-25, 25-16, 25-21. The Golden Eagles improved to 11-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, while Louisiana Tech fell to 7-9 and 0-2.

Sadie McAda led Southern Miss with a season-high 22 kills and 24.5 points, hitting .315 on 54 attacks. The performance came one day after McAda reached 1,000 career kills. Aubrey Judd added 14 kills, matching her career high, and Elly Stewart had 12 kills.

Allie Hazelwood recorded 46 assists and 14 digs for her third double-double of the season. Sunni Sheppard contributed 15 digs and six assists, while Kaylee Lowther tied her career high with five service aces and raised her season total to 23. Freshman Reese Warren recorded the first kill of her career.

Southern Miss finished with advantages in kills, hitting percentage, assists and digs. The Golden Eagles had 57 kills to Louisiana Tech’s 40 and hit .225 as a team compared with the Bulldogs’ .147. Southern Miss also led 56-38 in assists and 61-59 in digs, while recording six blocks and nine aces.

Southern Miss regained control in the third set after Louisiana Tech won the second. In the fourth, the Golden Eagles tied the score at 14, moved ahead 17-15 after a block by Judd and Lillie Johnson, and extended the lead to 21-18 as Stewart and McAda combined for four kills. McAda’s kill made it 24-21 before a Louisiana Tech attack error ended the match.

Southern Miss will host Troy at the Southern Miss Wellness Center on Oct. 2-3 for its first conference matches of 2026.
