Delta State women’s soccer rolls past UAH 6-1
Delta State defeated UAH 6-1 at Delta Field, using five first-half goals to take control of the match. The Lady Statesmen improved to 2-3-2 overall and 1-1-1 in Gulf South Conference play.
Avery Hooker opened the scoring at the 15:10 mark with an assist from Emma Earwood, and Mariela Dolan followed moments later with an unassisted goal. Millie Congerton scored in the 39th minute off a feed from Kennedi Turner, who added a goal less than two minutes later. Millie Webb scored in the 45th minute to give Delta State a 5-0 halftime lead.
Hooker scored again in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 6-0. UAH scored in the 61st minute for its lone goal.
Delta State finished with a 23-11 advantage in shots, put 10 shots on target and earned eight corner kicks. Goalkeeper Kim Bircher made four saves over 90 minutes to earn the win.
Hooker led Delta State with two goals, while Dolan, Congerton, Turner and Webb scored once each. Earwood, Turner and Bryleigh Taylor were credited with assists.
Delta State travels to Livingston, Alabama, next week to face West Alabama as Gulf South Conference play resumes.
