Delta State men’s soccer to host Union, UAH in conference home stand

Delta State University’s men’s soccer team will return to Delta Field for a two-match Gulf South Conference home stand against Union University and UAH. The Statesmen will face Union on Wednesday, September 16, before hosting UAH on Saturday, September 19. Both matches are scheduled for approximately 3:30 p.m. CT.

Delta State enters the home stand with a 2-3-1 record, including shutout victories over Harding and Eckerd. Tazjean Bird leads the team with four points from one goal and two assists through six matches. Lucas Crowley has one goal and one assist, while Samuel Fitschen has two assists.

Goalkeeper Daniel Santema has made 18 saves, posted an .857 save percentage and recorded three shutouts. As a team, Delta State has scored four goals and six assists through six games.

Union is 1-3 after a 2-1 road victory over Christian Brothers in its most recent match. Decker Burns, Lewis Harding, Solomon Pela and Niclas Peranitsch share the team lead with two points each, and each has scored one goal. Union goalkeeper Patrick Schott has 22 saves and a .786 save percentage through four matches.

The Bulldogs have recorded 47 shots, including 25 on goal, while allowing opponents 72 shots. UAH enters the weekend with a 4-0 record and is 1-0 in Gulf South Conference play.

Oli Orzechowski leads UAH with eight points, four goals, 20 shots and 12 shots on goal. He also has two game-winning goals. Goalkeeper Sonny Wright has allowed two goals and made nine saves with an .818 save percentage through four matches. The Chargers are averaging 3.0 goals per game while allowing 0.5.
