Alcorn falls to Memphis in three-set volleyball match

Alcorn State battled the University of Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, but fell in three sets Thursday morning, 25-6, 25-17, 25-17. Alcorn's record was listed as 0-7, while Memphis entered at 2-4.

Memphis built an early advantage in the opening set, which included multiple aces. Rylan Jones led Alcorn with two kills in the set.

Alcorn improved in the second set and cut Memphis' lead to 23-16 late, but the Tigers closed out the 25-17 victory.

In the third set, Alcorn used a 6-0 run to cut Memphis' lead to 14-10. The run included kills from Cristin Webb and Jones and a service ace from Courtney Carter. The Braves later pulled within 16-14 and 19-15 before Memphis regained control and won 25-17.

Jones led Alcorn with 14 kills and a .206 hitting percentage. Webb finished with four kills, Tomoni Giddings recorded 11 digs and Daylin Saiki had 19 assists.

Alcorn is scheduled to face Mississippi State on Friday, Sept. 11, at 3 p.m.
