Mississippi Christian lost to USC Aiken 3-2 Friday at A.E. Wood Coliseum in Clinton, despite winning the fourth set 25-21 and taking the opening set 25-18.
The Choctaws used early service pressure and late serving from Reese Regner to win the first set. USC Aiken answered by taking the second set 25-22 and the third 25-19. Mississippi Christian rallied in the fourth, turning a 12-10 deficit into an 18-13 lead by winning eight of nine rallies before holding on for the set victory.
USC Aiken led 13-11 in the deciding set before Mississippi Christian moved ahead 13-11. USC Aiken then scored the final four points to win the fifth set 15-13 and secure the match.
Meg Paparella led Mississippi Christian with 16 points, including 11 kills, 12 digs, two aces and three solo blocks. Samarin Kipple collected 28 digs and seven assists, while Mary Grace Foster recorded a team-high 12 kills on 41 attacks. Mamie Fromdahl added 21 assists, nine digs, one ace and one solo block.
Mississippi Christian will host Augusta on Saturday, Sept. 12, at 2 p.m. in Clinton.
