New State Route 2 section opens in Tippah County

A new 1.5-mile section of two-lane State Route 2 in Tippah County opened to traffic on September 8, according to the Mississippi Department of Transportation.

The completed section includes two new bridges and carries local traffic to State Route 368 and Tippah County Road 700. The SR 2 alignment is planned to connect existing State Route 15 at Blue Mountain with the new State Route 15 bypass.

MDOT District 1 Engineer Matt Dunn said the connection, funded through an investment by the Mississippi Legislature, is the first step toward a four-lane bypass intended to carry increased traffic, reduce congestion and support economic growth across the region.
