Alcorn volleyball falls in three sets to Mississippi State
Alcorn fell to Mississippi State in three sets during the second day of the Classic in Memphis, Tennessee. Mississippi State won the sets 28-8, 25-19 and 25-16.
Crisistin Webb led Alcorn with a season-high 10 kills and a .304 hitting percentage. Rylan Jones added nine kills and three digs, while Courtney Carter recorded eight kills and 10 digs, the latter a season high.
Mississippi State pulled away early in the opening set after Alcorn stayed within 6-3. Jones and Webb recorded Alcorn’s two kills in the set, and Daylin Saiki had an assist on each. In the second set, Alcorn remained within striking distance before the Bulldogs finished with a 5-2 run.
Alcorn tied the third set at 15-15 on a kill by Webb, but Mississippi State answered with a 6-1 run to take control. Alcorn finished with seven team blocks, while Saiki recorded 23 assists and Tomoni Giddings finished with 13.
Alcorn is scheduled to play Boston College at noon Friday, Sept. 12.
