National Weather Service issues flash flood risk across Mississippi

The National Weather Service has issued a risk for flash flooding across much of Mississippi from Tuesday, June 16, 2026, through early Wednesday, June 17, 2026, the agency said in a Facebook post.

The agency warned that areas could see flash flooding, roads may be flooded or closed and some structures could be threatened with inundation. The post urged residents to stay weather aware and identify alternate routes in case roads become impassable.

The National Weather Service is the federal agency responsible for weather forecasts and warnings, including watches and warnings for severe weather and flood hazards. Flash floods can develop rapidly during heavy rainfall and often inundate low-lying roads and structures with little warning.

The NWS reiterated the safety message “Turn Around, Don’t Drown,” advising drivers not to attempt crossing flooded roadways. Residents should monitor local forecasts and official updates from emergency management. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
