National Weather Service issues enhanced severe-weather risk
The National Weather Service has issued an enhanced risk for severe storms for the extreme northwestern corner of the state and warned that most of the state could experience some form of severe weather, according to a public advisory.
An enhanced risk is the third of five categories used by the agency in its convective outlooks, indicating a greater likelihood of organized severe thunderstorms than in lower categories. Severe storms can produce damaging winds, large hail, tornadoes and heavy rain that may lead to flash flooding.
A social-media advisory accompanying the outlook urged residents to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts, know their safe place and continue to follow local meteorologists for the latest updates on the forecast.
The potential for widespread severe weather could affect travel, outdoor activities and critical infrastructure. Residents in the warned areas should review safety plans and monitoring options as conditions evolve. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
