MEMA monitors Potential Tropical Cyclone One forecast to impact Mississippi
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) said it is closely monitoring Potential Tropical Cyclone One, which forecasters expect to impact Mississippi in the coming days. MEMA warned the storm could bring life-threatening flash flooding and that prolonged rainfall may extend the flood threat into the weekend, urging residents to continue to monitor the forecast and prepare now.
MEMA coordinates preparedness, response and recovery efforts for disasters across the state and issues guidance to local officials and the public during severe weather threats. The agency posted its alert on Facebook to reach residents with timely information.
The National Hurricane Center uses the designation “Potential Tropical Cyclone” for disturbances likely to affect land soon so that watches and warnings can be issued. Such systems can produce heavy rain and flash flooding even before they become named storms.
The potential for life-threatening flash flooding makes preparations and situational awareness important. Residents should follow local emergency instructions, monitor official forecasts and consider basic preparations such as securing property and assembling an emergency kit.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
