National Weather Service warns of flash flood threat across Mississippi
The National Weather Service has issued a risk for flash flooding Monday (6/15/26) through Tuesday night (6/16/26) across much of Mississippi, saying some areas could see flash flooding, flooded or closed roads and structures threatened with inundation.
The agency said residents should stay weather aware, identify alternate routes in case roads flood and follow the admonition: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” The warning lists potential impacts to travel and property but did not provide additional localized details.
The National Weather Service is the federal agency responsible for issuing watches, warnings and forecasts related to weather hazards. Flash floods can develop quickly during heavy rain, creating fast-moving water that can sweep away vehicles and damage buildings.
Local emergency managers and transportation officials often close flooded roadways and may issue additional advisories; motorists and residents should avoid driving through standing or moving water and monitor local forecasts and alerts from the agency.
This notice is intended to help residents prepare for possible travel disruptions and property risk. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
