MEMA coordinates response to Mississippi tornadoes

The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said in a Facebook post that it, along with state and local officials, faith-based organizations, volunteers and private sector partners, continues to respond to severe weather that struck the state on May 6 and 7, 2026.

MEMA is the state agency responsible for coordinating disaster preparedness, response and recovery efforts in Mississippi. Its role typically includes supporting local emergency managers, organizing damage assessments and working with federal partners when needs exceed state and local capacity.

The agency posted a link to a detailed update on damage assessments and relief efforts on its website. Officials say the coordinated effort is intended to speed recovery for affected communities and to direct resources where they are most needed.

Residents are urged to monitor local news and official MEMA communications for safety guidance and information on assistance. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
