MEMA coordinates statewide response to May 6-7 severe weather
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said it is continuing to respond to severe weather that struck the state on May 6 and 7, 2026, working alongside state and local officials, faith-based organizations, volunteers and private sector partners.
The agency posted the update on its Facebook page and linked to a more detailed bulletin on its website with the latest damage assessments and relief efforts. The notice did not include specific casualty figures or damage totals.
MEMA is the state agency charged with coordinating disaster preparedness and response in Mississippi, including damage assessment, resource allocation and coordination with local authorities and non-governmental partners. Severe spring storms in the region can produce tornadoes, flooding and widespread property and infrastructure damage, prompting multiagency response efforts.
The involvement of faith-based groups, volunteers and private partners is common in state disaster response and can speed delivery of shelter, supplies and cleanup assistance to affected communities. Officials encourage residents to consult MEMA’s website for updates and for guidance on seeking help. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
