VICKSBURG, Mississippi — The Vicksburg Police Department is investigating a homicide after an unidentified man was found dead Friday, Aug. 21, near the fence line by the I-20 west ramp to U.S. Highway 61 south, the department said.
Police said the man appeared to have sustained a stab wound. The victim’s identity remains unknown and investigators are working to determine the circumstances surrounding his death. A person of interest has been detained in connection with the incident, the department said.
The department posted the information on its official Facebook page and described the investigation as active and ongoing. Detectives typically rely on forensic evidence, witness interviews and autopsy results to establish cause and manner of death as they work to identify victims and piece together events leading up to homicides.
