Vicksburg police investigate early-morning crash, separate shooting near Circle K

VICKSBURG, Mississippi — Vicksburg police are investigating a three-vehicle crash and a separate shooting that occurred early Sunday near the Circle K convenience store, the Vicksburg Police Department said.

Officers were dispatched at 2:46 a.m. to the area of Clay Street and Old Highway 27 for a three-vehicle crash, police said. One vehicle caught fire and injuries were reported, though the department said the extent of those injuries was not immediately known.

While officers were responding to the crash, shots were fired around 3 a.m. in the area of the Circle K, according to the police department. Officers later found multiple shell casings at the scene, and police said no injuries had been reported in connection with the shooting.

Preliminary information indicates the crash and the shooting do not appear to be related, though both incidents remain under active investigation, the department said. Authorities asked anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Vicksburg Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 601-355-TIPS. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
