Southaven police K-9 teams place at K9 Olympics

The Southaven Police Department says its K-9 teams earned top finishes at the 27th Annual American Working Dogs/Vohne Liche Kennels K9 Olympics & Certification Trials, the department said in a Facebook post.

The department said the event drew 96 competitors, with judges and teams representing 14 states and three countries. Southaven credited three handler-and-dog teams for standout results.

Antzale Henry and K-9 Zorro placed first overall in explosives, second overall in explosive luggage detection and second overall in patrol team. Josh Reese and K-9 Nico placed first overall in patrol and first overall in area search. Gerardo Venegas and K-9 Dagger placed first overall in team explosives and second overall in team patrol work.

The American Working Dogs/Vohne Liche Kennels K9 Olympics is an annual gathering for law enforcement and working-dog teams that combines competition with certification in detection, patrol and search disciplines, organizers say. Performance at the event is often used to demonstrate training, readiness and interagency cooperation among K-9 units. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
