Vicksburg police identify victim, arrest suspect in I-20 ramp homicide

Vicksburg police identified the victim in an Aug. 21 homicide as 38-year-old Christopher Anderson and said a suspect has been arrested.

The Vicksburg Police Department said in a Facebook post that Anderson was found deceased near the fence line in the area of the I-20 West ramp to U.S. Highway 61 South with what appeared to be a stab wound.

Investigators identified the suspect as 42-year-old Christopher Scott Smith. Smith was arrested and charged with murder, the department said. He appeared before Judge Allen Derivaux on Monday, Aug. 24, 2026, and received a $150,000 bond.

The Vicksburg Police Department, which provides law enforcement for the city in western Mississippi along the Mississippi River, said the investigation remains active and ongoing. Interstate 20 is an east-west highway that passes through Vicksburg; U.S. Highway 61 runs north-south through the region. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
