Starkville officers greet recovering colleague during National Police Week

Starkville Police Department said on Facebook this week that a surprise visit from a recovering colleague helped the agency begin National Police Week.

The department identified the visitor as Colby Huffman, who is in town from Atlanta. The post said Huffman stopped by to have lunch and spend time with officers; for many, it was the first time seeing him in months. The department asked the public to continue keeping Huffman and his family in their prayers as he continues to recover.

National Police Week is observed annually to honor law enforcement personnel who serve their communities, and agencies often use the observance to gather, remember fallen officers and show support for colleagues. The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, where Huffman has been receiving care, is a specialized rehabilitation hospital known for treating patients with spinal cord and brain injuries.

The visit underlines the role community and departmental support can play in morale and recovery for officers and their families. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
