Nation honors law enforcement during National Police Week
This week, communities across the United States observe National Police Week to honor law enforcement officers and remember those who died in the line of duty. The observance recognizes the courage, integrity and dedication of officers who serve daily to protect their communities.
National Police Week is held annually in May and is centered on Peace Officers Memorial Day, observed May 15. Communities, police departments and advocacy groups traditionally mark the week with memorial services, tributes and events to support officers and bereaved families.
Officials and residents are urged to acknowledge the personal cost of service and the contributions officers make whether responding to emergencies, keeping streets safe or helping individuals in quiet, everyday ways. Families of officers who have died are a particular focus of the week’s remembrances.
Organizers ask the public to show appreciation by thanking officers, supporting families of the fallen and attending local memorial events where available. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
