Pike County recognizes detention officers during National Correctional Officers Week

Pike County Sheriff’s Office is recognizing its Detention Center officers during National Correctional Officers Appreciation Week, observed Sunday, May 3, 2026, through Saturday, May 9, 2026, the office said.

The weeklong observance was established to highlight the critical role correctional officers play in maintaining safety, security and order within jails and prisons, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Department said.

The sheriff’s office said the observance also provides an opportunity for communities and law enforcement agencies to show appreciation for work that often goes unnoticed but carries significant responsibility and risk. Across the U.S., agencies use the week to draw attention to the daily challenges correctional officers face, from managing inmate populations to ensuring secure facility operations while supporting rehabilitation efforts.

The information was provided by the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Public Relations Department. This is a developing topic and will be updated as more details become available.
