Southern Pines takes in 34 pets in one day, seeks donations

HATTIESBURG — Southern Pines Animal Shelter said Thursday it took in 34 pets in one day, including 10 dogs seized from a residential property, and is asking the community for donations to help care for the animals.

Shelter officials said their team was called Thursday afternoon to assist Hattiesburg Animal Control with the seizure. When staff arrived, they found crates filled with puppies and dogs. The animals were taken to Southern Pines for intake exams, food, bedding and placement in more spacious kennels, the shelter said.

In addition to the 10 dogs seized, the shelter said it accepted 24 other pets Thursday, bringing the day’s total intake to 34 animals. Southern Pines Animal Shelter said donations are needed to cover medical exams, treatments, food, kennel care, transportation, enrichment, adoption events and other lifesaving programs.

Anyone who wants to help may make a one-time donation or sign up for a monthly gift through Southern Pines Animal Shelter, the organization said. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
