Monticello animal rescue seeks donations after founder’s property hit by tornado

Monticello, Mississippi — Safe Haven Rescue MS is asking for donations after the rescue’s founder and president suffered damage to her property when an EF-4/EF-5 tornado struck Wednesday evening, the organization said.

The rescue said the founder, her dogs and all of the rescue animals were safe and unharmed. The organization said one of its largest losses was a transport van that was crushed after trees fell and were uprooted, and that the founder also lost her personal truck.

Safe Haven Rescue MS said replacing the transport van represents a major expense the group cannot cover on its own. The rescue asked the public to consider donating or sharing the request because many animals depend on its services. The organization did not provide a cost estimate.

EF-4 and EF-5 ratings are at the high end of the Enhanced Fujita scale, which classifies tornado strength by observed damage. Safe Haven Rescue MS said people can donate through the group’s Facebook page and asked for prayers for those affected by the storm. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
