Sheriff Johnson honors nurses for National Nurses Week
Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post this week that he recognizes National Nurses Week 2026 and thanked three medical staff who serve his agency daily.
Johnson identified Jamie Burrell (FNP), Niki Soderstrom (RN) and Jamie Green (RN) and said they provide care, compassion and professionalism to the agency’s inmate population and staff. He said their commitment to health and wellbeing does not go unnoticed.
National Nurses Week is observed May 6-12 and culminates on May 12, the birthday of Florence Nightingale. The observance highlights the role nurses play across health-care settings, including in jails and sheriff’s offices where medical staff provide routine and emergency care, manage chronic conditions and coordinate with custody personnel.
Recognition from agency leadership underscores the reliance of correctional systems on medical personnel to protect public health and maintain safety inside detention facilities. Health care in jails can affect outcomes for inmates and the broader community when individuals are released.
The sheriff posted his remarks on Facebook. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
