Sheriff Johnson recognizes National Correctional Officers Week
Sheriff Jim H. Johnson said in a Facebook post that May 3–9, 2026, is being recognized as National Correctional Officers Week and thanked the men and women who serve in the county’s jail and correctional operations.
In his post, Johnson said correctional officers work often behind the scenes but perform duties essential to the safety, security and daily operation of the agency. He noted that officers face difficult and sometimes dangerous responsibilities with professionalism, patience and commitment.
Correctional officers are responsible for custody, care and supervision of people in detention and for maintaining security within jails and detention centers. Their work supports broader public safety efforts by law enforcement and the criminal justice system.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, which manages local jail and correctional operations, acknowledged the week as an opportunity to recognize staff whose work is not always visible to the public. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
