SCOTT COUNTY, Miss. — The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said it welcomed Slater and his father as they continue a cross-state journey through Mississippi, leaving impressions at law enforcement agencies along the way.
The office said in a Facebook post that staff gave the pair a tour of areas of the facility open to visitors and presented Slater with a Scott County Sheriff’s Office SRT shirt, an agency patch and a SWAT patch to add to his collection. He also rode in an armored vehicle, an experience the agency said it hopes he never forgets.
The post said staff members heard how the journey began and what the travelers hope to accomplish. The agency added that stories like theirs remind deputies of the positive relationships that can be built between law enforcement and the communities they serve.
The message invited local youth to visit the sheriff’s office to meet the administrative division, deputies and dispatchers and learn more about the agency. The post was signed by Sheriff Mike Lee, Chief Deputy Brad Ellis and Public Information Officer Joshua Thames.
The Scott County Sheriff’s Office is one of many local agencies that periodically host tours and outreach activities to build community ties.
