Scott County sheriff’s office welcomes traveling boy, father

The Scott County Sheriff’s Office said it welcomed a boy identified as Slater and his father during a visit as they continue a journey across Mississippi.

Office staff gave the pair a tour of portions of the facility open to visitors. Slater received a Scott County Sheriff’s Office SRT shirt, an agency patch and a SWAT patch, and was allowed to ride in the office’s armored vehicle, the post said.

The sheriff’s office said employees also heard how the trip began and what the pair hope to accomplish before it ends. The post expressed prayers for the safety of Slater and his father and wished them safe travels as they continue through Mississippi and into neighboring states.

The message was signed by Sheriff Mike Lee, Chief Deputy Brad Ellis and Public Information Officer Joshua Thames. The post invited local youth to visit the sheriff’s office to meet administrative staff, deputies and dispatchers and to learn more about the agency. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
