Riders honor Hattiesburg officers at annual memorial ride

HATTIESBURG, Mississippi — A strong showing of law enforcement, Jeep riders and motorcycle enthusiasts took part Saturday in the annual Dean and Tate End of Watch Memorial Ride, the Hattiesburg Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Riders traveled to the memorial site at 4th and Gordon streets to honor Hattiesburg Police Officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate, who lost their lives more than 10 years ago, the post said. Despite damp streets, the department said spirits were high throughout the event.

The families of both officers attended and expressed deep gratitude to the community for keeping the officers’ memories alive, the post said. End-of-watch memorial rides are common events in which colleagues, friends and supporters gather to remember officers killed in the line of duty and to show solidarity with surviving family members.

The Hattiesburg Police Department thanked everyone who rode, cheered and supported the memorial. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
