Hattiesburg honors fallen officers at memorial ceremony

The Hattiesburg Police Department said it joined area law enforcement agencies, families and community members for the annual Law Enforcement Memorial Ceremony at the Lake Terrace Convention Center, the department said in a Facebook post.

Sean Tindell, commissioner of the Mississippi Department of Public Safety, spoke during the ceremony, offering words of remembrance, gratitude and respect for officers who gave their lives in service, the department said.

The ceremony honored law enforcement officers from the Hattiesburg area who died in the line of duty and served as a reminder of the courage and commitment carried by those who wear the badge, the post said. The department invited residents to wear blue Thursday, May 14, as part of a Paint Hattiesburg Blue event in support of local law enforcement.

The memorial observance coincides with Police Week, which is observed annually in mid-May to honor officers who have fallen in the line of duty and to support their families. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
