Toppers fall to Grand View on walk-off single in NAIA opener
Blue Mountain Christian University opened play Monday afternoon in the NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round in Oklahoma City, battling No. 2 seed Grand View University before falling 2-1 on a walk-off single in the seventh inning, the school said.
The Toppers, Blue Mountain Christian University’s softball team, faced a nationally seeded opponent in the opening game of the tournament. The game extended to the final frame, with Grand View delivering the decisive hit in the seventh.
Grand View University, the Vikings, entered the opening round as the tournament’s No. 2 seed. The high seeding reflects the program’s standing in NAIA softball, where seeds are used to arrange the opening-round matchups in the national championship.
The NAIA Softball National Championship Opening Round determines which teams advance deeper into the postseason bracket and competes for spots in the later rounds of the national tournament.
