Mississippi honor guard attends National Police Officers’ Memorial Service

The Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard participated in the 45th annual National Police Officers’ Memorial Service at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said in a Facebook post Friday.

The department said the appearance capped National Police Week and gave the honor guard an opportunity to stand alongside agencies from across the nation to pay tribute to law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty.

The post said members of the honor guard assisted and supported the families of three fallen Mississippi officers being honored: Officer Bryan Pippin of the Jackson Police Department, Deputy Joshua Brashears of the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department and Deputy Martin Shields Jr. of the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department. “Their sacrifice will never be forgotten,” the department said.

National Police Week, observed annually in May, includes the memorial service to recognize law enforcement officers who have died while serving their communities. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
