Pontotoc County disaster center closes May 30, reopens June 1

Pontotoc County announced on social media that its Disaster Service Center at the Pontotoc County Agri-Center, 430 C.J. Harding Jr. Drive, will be closed Saturday, May 30, and will reopen Monday, June 1.

The Facebook post said it is not necessary to visit a Disaster Service Center to apply for federal assistance. Individuals can apply online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by using the FEMA app.

Disaster Service Centers, sometimes called disaster recovery centers, provide in-person help to residents after emergencies and are typically staffed by federal, state and local officials who can offer information, answer questions and help with applications for aid. Centers can be especially important for residents without internet access or who need help with documentation.

The temporary closure may affect residents who prefer in-person assistance, but alternate application methods remain available. Pontotoc County posted the notice on its Facebook page. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
