Alcorn County disaster center closes until June 1
A Disaster Service Center in Alcorn County at the Northeast Community Center, 2759 South Harper Road, will be closed until June 1, a notice posted on Facebook said.
Disaster Service Centers, sometimes called Disaster Recovery Centers, are set up after emergencies to provide in-person help to residents seeking information about disaster assistance and to apply for help from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The centers often offer access to case workers, application guidance and printed materials.
The Facebook notice said it is not necessary to visit a Disaster Service Center to apply for federal assistance. Individuals can apply online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov, by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or by using the FEMA App.
The closure could affect residents who prefer face-to-face help or who lack reliable internet or phone access. Local officials and nonprofit organizations often provide additional assistance and information about alternate locations or resources following disasters.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
