Oxford summer reading program names Officer Rogers patron of week

Organizers of a 2026 summer reading program in Oxford, Mississippi, said they are in the third week of the event and that patrons of all ages are taking a challenge to read every day this summer. The program’s Facebook post identified Officer Rogers of the Oxford, Mississippi, Police Department as the newest Patron of the Week and said he recently signed up to participate.

Summer reading programs are common at public libraries and community centers and aim to encourage literacy, prevent summer learning loss and keep readers of all ages engaged when school is out. Local programs often include incentives, events and weekly recognition to motivate participation.

Organizers said the participation of a law enforcement officer highlights the program’s community reach and provides a visible example for other residents to join. Community involvement by public servants can help broaden program visibility and foster stronger ties between organizations and local residents.

The Facebook post included the hashtag #frloxford and asked residents whether they had signed up. Program organizers encouraged interested patrons to check the program’s social channels for details on how to join.

We will provide more information as it becomes available.
