Harrison County School District starts free summer feeding program June 1
HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. — The Harrison County School District will begin a free summer feeding program June 1, expanding options to ensure children across the community have access to meals during the summer months.
The program will continue traditional cafeteria service and the Mobile Dining Trailer and will add a new seven-day bulk meal pickup option designed to serve busy families and stretch grocery budgets, the district said.
“We understand that both budgets and schedules are stretched thin, and we are here to help,” said Brad Barlow, Child Nutrition Director for Harrison County School District. He said any child, regardless of where they attend school, can receive free summer meals at any district site. Barlow said four locations will be open one day per week to provide bulk meal kits containing seven days’ worth of breakfasts and lunches in one box.
The district encouraged community members to spread the word and to visit the program this summer. More information is available on the district website at https://www.harrison.k12.ms.us/summerfeed.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
