Oxford police perform Murph workout to honor fallen service members

Oxford Police Department said in a Facebook post that officers completed the workout known as “The Murph” on Memorial Day to honor Navy SEAL Lt. Michael Murphy and service members who died in the line of duty.

The department posted the workout sequence — 1 mile, 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 squats, 1 mile — and said officers took it on “because they can’t” and “we remember because we must.”

The Murph is a popular endurance workout named for Lt. Michael Murphy and is often performed on Memorial Day by military personnel, first responders and fitness communities to pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. Departments and organizations nationwide use the routine as a physical and symbolic act of remembrance.

Oxford Police Department attributed the post to their Facebook page and used the hashtags #TheMurph, #MemorialDay and #HonorTheFallen. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
