Oxford police honor fallen trooper at national LawFit competition
OXFORD, Miss. — The Oxford Police Department said its LawFit team competed with determination and purpose over the past two days alongside agencies from across the country while honoring a fallen Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper.
In a Facebook post, the department said the team carried the name of Trooper John Harris, whose end of watch was May 28, 2021, on the back of their shirts to remember his life, service and sacrifice. The post noted Harris is the brother of Oxford business owner Lee Harris.
Oxford police said every mile run, every repetition completed and every challenge faced during the competition was done in remembrance of a law enforcement officer who “gave everything in service to others,” language taken from the department’s post.
LawFit is a competitive fitness event for law enforcement teams that often serves as a forum for interagency camaraderie and memorial tributes. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
