Oxford Police invest in officers’ education
The Oxford Police Department said on Facebook that author Brent Behrens sent copies of his book, The Cost of the Badge, to some of the department’s newer officers, calling the gesture an investment in the future of the agency.
The department thanked Behrens for the donation and said the book offers insight into the realities of law enforcement and the lessons that come with serving in the profession. The post said the department believes training and education do not stop when an officer graduates from the academy.
Continuing education and professional development are common priorities for law enforcement agencies seeking to improve officer decision-making, safety and community relations. Departments often use books, seminars and in-service training to expose officers to different perspectives and to reinforce best practices.
The Oxford Police Department said it remains committed to giving officers opportunities to learn, grow and become better equipped to serve the community. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
