Starkville officers join Hannah Pote Run for Education
Starkville Police Department posted on Facebook that its officers will participate in the Hannah Pote Run for Education 5K and 1-mile fun run on Saturday, Aug. 22, 2026, at 8 a.m. The department said the event honors the memory of Hannah Pote, an SHS student-athlete who died in a car accident in 1997.
The post said officers have been training and preparing for the race and are proud to support the Starkville Oktibbeha School District. Funds raised at the event will go directly to teacher grants and special school projects throughout the district, the department said.
Organizers warned there may be intermittent traffic delays along the race route during the event and asked motorists for patience and understanding as officers and community members take part.
The run continues a long tradition of community fundraisers that support local schools and educational programs. This is a developing story and will be updated as more details emerge.
