MBI briefs Hinds County Citizens Academy on public safety alerts

Members of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation’s Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Special Operations Division and Major Crimes Division spoke at the Hinds County Citizens Academy earlier this week to outline the state’s public safety alert system, the Mississippi Department of Public Safety said on its Facebook page.

The presentation covered AMBER Alerts, Endangered Missing Child Alerts, Silver Alerts and Blue Alerts, the department said. Those alerts are widely used to quickly notify the public about missing persons, suspected perpetrators and threats to law enforcement, helping authorities locate individuals and solicit tips from citizens.

The Hinds County Citizens Academy is a community outreach program that gives residents a closer look at how law enforcement agencies operate and the resources available to them. The MBI presenters aimed to educate participants about when and how different alerts are issued and how community members can assist in active cases.

Officials said they appreciate the opportunity to engage with the community and highlight tools that help keep Mississippi safe. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
