Officers from the Oxford Police Department in Oxford, Mississippi, finished third in the four-man team competition at the National LawFit Competition with a team score of 1,437, the department said in a Facebook post. The department said its officers also earned several individual honors at the national event.
In the 1.5-mile run, Officer Dylan Hudson finished first, Detective Atziri Ortiz finished third and Officer Johnie Hudson finished fourth, the post said. In the pull-up event, Captain Ben Hamilton finished third and Lt. Mike Burks finished fifth.
The department said the team brought home seven individual event awards. Lt. Mike Burks was named rookie of the year and Detective Atziri Ortiz finished as a top-five female competitor, according to the post.
National LawFit is a fitness competition for law enforcement officers that tests strength, endurance and teamwork and draws participants from agencies across the country. The Oxford Police Department said it was proud of the team for their determination and representation at the national competition.
