Oxford police apply crime scene training to local investigations

Oxford police said on their Facebook page that two investigators returned from specialized crime scene training and immediately put the techniques into practice with the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Investigative Sgt. Kam Herod and Detective Atziri Ortiz completed the recent course and worked with the CID team on hands-on exercises that the department described as including fingerprint development, collection and preservation techniques, and overall crime scene processing.

The Oxford Police Department, the municipal law enforcement agency that serves Oxford, Mississippi, said the training is part of its ongoing effort to sharpen skills and share knowledge internally. Police training in forensics and evidence handling can affect the quality of investigations and the integrity of evidence used in court, officials and experts say.
