Residents affected by Jan. 23-27 storms have final day to apply
Officials said in a Facebook post that residents affected by the Jan. 23-27 winter storms have until today to apply for federal disaster assistance.
Applicants may apply online, by phone, through the FEMA app or by visiting Disaster Recovery Centers located in Alcorn, Lafayette, Panola, Leflore, Benton, Yazoo, Carroll, Coahoma, Montgomery, Tallahatchie, Pontotoc, Marshall and Tishomingo counties, the post said.
The post also noted that receiving these benefits will not affect anyone’s Social Security, Medicare or Medicaid benefits.
Federal disaster assistance is intended to help individuals and households recover from losses that are not covered by insurance and to provide temporary housing and other support after damaging storms, officials said. FEMA and local emergency management agencies typically coordinate outreach and application support in affected areas.
We will provide more information as it becomes available.
