Mississippi warns residents three days left to apply for storm assistance
The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency said residents in counties affected by the Jan. 23-27 winter storms have three days left to apply for disaster assistance.
Applications can be submitted online, by phone, through the FEMA app or by visiting one of the agency’s Disaster Service Centers in Alcorn, Lafayette, Panola, Leflore, Benton, Yazoo, Carroll, Coahoma, Montgomery, Tallahatchie, Pontotoc, Marshall and Tishomingo counties. Centers are open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., MEMA said.
MEMA, the state agency responsible for coordinating emergency preparedness, response and recovery in Mississippi, often works with federal and local partners to help residents access aid after severe weather. Timely applications can determine eligibility for recovery programs and help officials prioritize resources for the hardest-hit areas.
The agency urged eligible residents to apply before the deadline so their requests can be reviewed. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
