Pike County Sheriff Bryant “Wally” Jones urged residents to put safety first as they prepare for Labor Day weekend, saying travel, outdoor activities and gatherings should be enjoyed responsibly.
In a message posted on the Pike County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, Jones told motorists to slow down, buckle seat belts, stay alert and never drive impaired. “If you plan to consume alcohol or use any substance that may impair you, make arrangements for a sober driver and never get behind the wheel,” he said.
Jones also urged caution on lakes, rivers and at pools, advising people to watch children closely, wear appropriate safety equipment and avoid operating boats or recreational vehicles while impaired.
He encouraged residents to look out for one another and to report emergencies or suspected impaired drivers by calling 911. Jones said the men and women of the Pike County Sheriff’s Office will work throughout the holiday weekend to help keep citizens and visitors safe.
