OSPD warns storms, Potential Tropical Cyclone One threaten Texas coast
OSPD said in a Facebook post that residents should stay weather aware as storms move through the area and that Potential Tropical Cyclone One continued to hug the Texas coast as it moved northeast early June 17 at 6 a.m.
The post said the system may briefly become a tropical storm later in the day but cautioned that, regardless of development, it would bring heavy rainfall, coastal and marine hazards and isolated severe storms. The agency urged motorists to use caution while traveling, avoid flooded roadways and never drive through standing water.
OSPD also advised people to monitor local weather updates and to call 911 in an emergency. The Facebook post used the tags #StayWeatherAware and #OSPD.
The National Hurricane Center uses the designation “Potential Tropical Cyclone” to allow issuance of watches and warnings for systems expected to produce tropical-storm- or hurricane-force conditions, including heavy rain and dangerous coastal conditions. Such hazards can lead to flash flooding, roadway closures and hazardous marine conditions.
Residents are encouraged to follow local officials and weather services for the latest information. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
