The Jackson Police Department said Chief Brackney joined Mayor John Horhn for an official street renaming ceremony designating a segment of the I-20 frontage road as Guru Tegh Bahadur Marg.
In a Facebook post, the department said the renaming commemorates a pivotal figure celebrated for his advocacy of human rights and religious freedom. The post also expressed the department’s gratitude to organizers and community members for inviting them to participate and for the hospitality they received.
Guru Tegh Bahadur was a Sikh leader historically recognized for his defense of religious liberty and human rights. Naming streets after historical figures is a common way communities honor contributions and promote public awareness of their legacies.
The Jackson Police Department is the citys law enforcement agency and often participates in civic and ceremonial events. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
