Jackson police chief attends National Police Week ceremony in Washington

RaShall Brackney, chief of the Jackson Police Department, traveled to Washington, D.C., last week to participate in the National Police Week 2026 ceremony where the names of Sergeant Bryan Pippin and Hinds County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Martin Shields Jr. were added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Wall, Brackney wrote on the department’s Facebook page.

Brackney, who recently joined the Jackson force, said she felt humbled to spend time with the families of Pippin and Shields, who also traveled to the capital to pay tribute to their loved ones. She wrote that their strength, grace and pride in the sacrifices made by the two officers served as a powerful reminder of why officers wear the badge.

Brackney encouraged badge-carrying officers and their families to attend National Police Memorial Week, an annual observance that honors law enforcement officers who have died in the line of duty and includes the listing of names on the memorial wall in Washington.

She also said she took the opportunity in Washington to engage in legislative discussions with Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson to advocate for resources and support for officers and communities. Brackney closed her post, “We remember. We honor. We serve.”
