I-55 southbound reopens after crash near Stateline Road
A Facebook post at 4:35 p.m. said an accident that had shut down southbound lanes of Interstate 55 near Stateline Road has been cleared and all lanes are open. The post urged drivers to travel safely.
Earlier updates on the same Facebook page said the southbound ramp from I-55 to Stateline Road was closed and that I-55 southbound lanes were backed up at the Mississippi state line. One notice described the situation as a shutdown of I-55 southbound just north of Stateline Road and advised motorists to use alternate routes.
Interstate 55 is a major north-south highway that links the Midwest with the Gulf Coast and often carries commuter, commercial and long-distance traffic. Disruptions on the highway can cause significant delays and affect traffic flow on nearby surface streets and ramps.
Authorities and road agencies often post real-time traffic updates on social media during incidents to inform drivers. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
